A lifelong Brookings resident tells us a little bit of history about the art work in the front section of our sanctuary . . .

In 1937, a devoted christian woman named Flo Wheeler painted an 8 by 24 foot mural of Jesus being baptised by John the Baptist.  The scene is displayed on the sanctuary back wall behind the baptistry.  Mrs. Wheeler was crippled with arthritis and painted the scene by laying a total of seven sections of plywood across her bed.  Each section was carried over a very narrow foot bridge across the Chetco River from Harbor to the church in Brookings, with the prayer that through the years it would give inspiration to all those who followed the footsteps of our Savior in the waters of baptism.
